Dental Implants

Whether you have lost one or more teeth, you may be struggling with pain, a limited ability to chew, and impacted speech.

Dr. Damien F. Armstrong can place and restore dental implants to dramatically improve patients' quality of life.

Why are dental implants highly recommended at our downtown Chattanooga office?

The Gold Standard for Tooth Replacement

Your dental implants can last 40 years or even a lifetime with proper care and dental hygiene. However, your restoration will need to be replaced about every 10 years or so.

Prevent Jawbone Atrophy

If restorative treatment is delayed for too long, jawbone tissue begins to recede. Fortunately, dental implants can act as tooth roots, halting this process and preserving the strength of the jaw.

Increased Stability

Traditional dentures can easily slip out of place when eating or speaking. Implant-supported dentures, on the other hand, remain firmly in place and increase the strength of your bite.

A Life-Changing Solution

Patients who need to have their teeth replaced can turn to River City Dentistry for dental implants. Implants provide support for crowns, bridges, and dentures, allowing you to eat the foods you love. What's more, dental implants are incredibly durable and can provide a lifetime of security for your restorations.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are titanium posts that replace lost tooth roots. At our office in downtown Chattanooga, our dentists can surgically place implants through your gums and into your jawbone. Over time, the implants will fuse with the bone and become a permanent part of your anatomy. Then, we can attach a lifelike dental restoration to the implants, completing your smile.

Before and After Dental Implants

Before Implants
Before Implants This patient had a missing tooth that created an obvious gap in her smile and made it difficult to bite, chew, and speak.
After Implants
After Implants Our Chattanooga dentists were able to replace her missing tooth by attaching a natural-looking crown to a dental implant.

Dental Implant Timeline

Every step of the process can be completed at our office in downtown Chattanooga.
Every step of the process can be completed at our office in downtown Chattanooga.

When you decide to proceed with dental implant treatment, our doctors will use our state-of-the-art imaging technology to capture detailed scans of your jaw and natural teeth. They will use these scans to determine the ideal locations for implant placement and whether you require preparatory bone grafting. If you do require a preparatory procedure, we will schedule that treatment. If not, we can set a time for your initial implant surgery.

Implant Surgery

When it is time for your surgery, your doctor will begin by administering a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Some patients might also choose to be sedated. Then, they will make small incisions in the gums, exposing the jawbone. Next, they will create small pilot holes into the bone and then insert the titanium implants. Finally, they will stitch the gums closed over the implants.

Once the implants are in place, a healing period of three to six months will be required for the implants to fuse with the bone tissue. This process is known as "osseointegration." Depending on the location of your missing tooth or teeth, we may be able to provide a temporary restoration for you to wear during this time.

Once your implants are firmly integrated with your bone, you will return to our dental practice for a second procedure. During this surgery, our dentists will attach small connector pieces known as abutments to your dental implants. Then, we will take the necessary molds of your teeth and gums so we can begin creating your natural-looking crown, bridge, or denture

Depending on the type of dental restoration you require, it could be created in a single day, or it might require a few weeks. Eventually, we will be able to attach your restoration to the abutments, completing your smile and restoring your ability to bite, chew, and speak.

Relax with Dental Sedation

Are you nervous about the idea of implant surgery? Sedation dentistry can calm your nerves during the procedure. At River City Dentistry, we are trained in multiple forms of sedation. Ask about our sedation options during your consultation.

Caring for Dental Implants

One of the greatest advantages of dental implant-supported restorations is that they are as easy to care for as your natural teeth. If you brush twice a day, floss daily, and visit our Chattanooga offices for routine checkups, your implants stand a great chance of lasting for the rest of your life (note that your crown, bridge, or denture will typically require replacement every ten years or so).
