BOTOX Cosmetic is an injectable used to relax underlying facial muscles, helping to diminish or eliminate the appearance of lines and wrinkles. The BOTOX Cosmetic is a highly diluted form of botulinum toxin type A, a bacterium-produced neuromuscular toxin. This safe and effective treatment has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to smooth skin, alleviate eye-muscle disorders, and prevent the recurrence of migraine headaches.

Eyes
We can reduce or eliminate wrinkles near the corner of the eyes, often referred to as "crows' feet," that are caused by repeated muscle movements involved in making facial expressions.

After BOTOX Cosmetic Treatment
Results
Most patients start to notice a difference in their skin about three days after their procedure. This can vary based on what area of the face was targeted. The full effect of the botulinum toxin may not be evident until two weeks after the treatment. Results typically last three months before retreatment is required.
Aftercare
For the best results, you should follow the aftercare instructions that Dr. Armstrong will provide after your procedure. These include: avoid touching or rubbing the injection sites; avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours; don't apply makeup or facial creams for 24 hours; and avoid drinking alcohol for 24 hours.
Side Effects
Botulinum toxin is a safe and effective treatment for fine lines and wrinkles, but some patients do experience side effects. Rare side effects include droopy eyelids, swollen eyelids, pain in the neck or head, and cold and flu symptoms. If you experience any unforeseen side effects, contact us for assistance.

Is botulinum toxin safe?
"Botulinum toxin" may sound scary, but in small, controlled amounts it is completely safe to use as a muscle relaxer. Many patients don't realize how common botulinum toxin is in cosmetic care. Besides BOTOX Cosmetic, other injectable brands like Dysport® and Xeomin® also utilize botulinum toxin compounds.
If I start using BOTOX Cosmetic, can I stop?
Yes. Treatment with BOTOX Cosmetic (or other injectables like Dysport or Xeomin) is not a lifelong commitment. You are free to end your BOTOX Cosmetic routine at any time. When you stop botulinum toxin injections, your muscles will return to their natural state, and some of your wrinkles and fine lines may become more prominent. However, your face will not appear more aged than it would if you had never used BOTOX Cosmetic.
